Online Meeting Mon 20 Sept: How can Labour fight Johnson’s racist offensive?

An online event in advance of Labour Conference 2021

Speakers include: • Diane Abbott MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP Kim Johnson MP Catherine West MP Kevin Courtney, NEU Joint General Secretary • Shaka Hislop, Show Racism The Red Card Honorary President • Sonali Bhattacharyya, Momentum National Secretary • Sabby Dhalu, Stand Up To Racism Co-Convenor + more TBC

The meeting comes at a crucial moment, as attempts by the Government to deny the reality of institutional racism have been met by a wave of public opposition, exemplified by public reaction to the appalling racist abuse faced by Black England footballers.

The need for solidarity with refugees is also stronger than ever, with thousands fleeing a desperate situation in Afghanistan and urgent action needed for Britain to play its role in providing them with sanctuary.

The coming months will be vital in creating opposition to the government’s offensive through the CRED report, attacks on refugee and migrant rights through the ‘Nationality and Borders’ Bill, the ongoing increase in Islamophobia, and targeting of black communities and the black lives matter movement through the policing bill and use of Section 60.

The disportionate effect of the pandemic both medically and economically on black and Asian communities remains a key issue, along with the need to build unity against racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, anti-roma and anti-East Asian hate crime.

Join us to discuss the role Labour members, groups & representatives can take in challenging & defeating the government’s racist offensive.
