Scotland Welcomes Refugees – Stop SERCO’s mass eviction

Stand up to Racism is encouraging all anti-racist campaigners to oppose SERCO’s mass eviction of 300 asylum seekers who have been forced into destitution by inhumane UK Home Office policies, practices and procedures. We have to demand that the UK Government can no longer turn its back on the global refugee crisis. Many refugees have fled war-torn countries such as Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Following Tuesday’s 500 strong demonstration at Buchanan Street, there will be a protest this Saturday at SERCO and the Home Office’s Brand Street building in Cessnock, Glasgow. We have to send out a clear message that Scotland Welcomes Refugees.

Speakers: Aamer Anwar (Human Rights Lawyer), Mohammad Asif (Afghan HRF), Robina Qureshi (Positive Action in Housing), representative of the Jewish and Muslim communities, Jock Morris (Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees), Rev Dr Iain Whyte (Church of Scotland), Alison Swinfen (IONA Community), Sabir Zazai (Scottish Refugee Council), Stand up to Racism and others.

Saturday 4th August, 11am-1pm, SERCO and Home Office building, 100 Brand Steet, Cessnock (close to Cessnock underground).

No to Racist attacks! Migrants & Refugees welcome!

Recently in Edinburgh, there was an alleged racist group attack against two young Polish men in the Davison Mains area of the city, which left the youngest victim, a 19 year old teenager, with a serious facial injury and cuts to his arm and face. It has been reported that the two men and their female friend were attacked by a group of ten youths as they walked off a bus on the eve of Saturday 21st of July.

In response, Stand up to Racism Edinburgh has called a protest this Saturday in Davidson Mains to encourage all in the community who oppose racism – community groups, political parties, and trade unions – to join us in condemning this alleged racist attack and to show that migrants and refugees are welcome here.

Saturday 4th August at 2pm at Davidson Mains (near Greggs on Main Street), Edinburgh.
